Trial adjourned for third time in case over death of 14-year-old Kyriaki in Lamia
The three-member misdemeanour court in Lamia has adjourned for the third time the trial of two doctors who face charges of manslaughter by negligence in connection with the death of 14-year-old Kyriaki Zania, who died in December 2021 from complications of coronavirus.

The court in Lamia has again postponed the trial of two doctors at the local hospital who face charges of manslaughter by negligence. The young patient, aged 14, died in December 2021 following complications caused by coronavirus, despite having sought medical assistance.
The girl was transported by ambulance to hospital at 9:30 in the morning on 4 December 2021. Upon arrival, she had tested positive on a rapid test that had been carried out on 29 November. According to the indictment, she was initially examined by one of the accused doctors, who ordered laboratory tests, insertion of an intravenous catheter, and an electrocardiogram. The latter showed an abnormality; however, the minor remained without medical care for almost four hours.
The trial had been scheduled for 18 June, but the defence of the second accused submitted a request for adjournment on grounds of health. The court accepted it and set a new trial date of 19 November 2026.
The decision provoked a strong reaction from the parents of the 14-year-old, who demanded that justice be served for the loss of their child.
