A judicial officer conducting a preliminary investigation into a scandal at the Urban Planning Services has received prosecutorial authorisation to investigate what is held in the safe deposit boxes of suspects.
The competent authority for combating the laundering of proceeds from illegal activities approved the relevant request. Through its decision, it proceeded with a partial lifting of the seizure of specific assets, so that any findings could be assessed by the judiciary within the framework of the broader case file.
It is worth noting that following the disclosure of the case, the head of the Authority Charalampos Vourliotis had issued an order for the complete freezing of all asset data of those involved, including safe deposit boxes.
The case, which has led to the pre-trial detention of six individuals, continues to be investigated intensively. Inspections by the competent service have already commenced and initial data are being collected. If evidence of criminal offences emerges, a new case file will be prepared and submitted to the prosecutor.
Evidence from the preliminary investigation shows that other individuals have been identified who may have had a role in the case, with the judiciary monitoring them closely.
