A police officer was injured in the legs when a 51-year-old driver hit a patrol car in Chania after first attempting to evade a traffic check with dangerous manoeuvres.

On Thursday, 11 June 2026, in the evening hours, tension arose in the Tsikalaria area of the Chania Municipality. Police officers conducting a routine traffic check signalled a passing vehicle to stop for inspection.
The 51-year-old driver, rather than comply, accelerated backwards and began driving in a dangerous manner. The man executed abrupt manoeuvres and reached high speed, putting pedestrians and police officers at risk.
During the pursuit, the vehicle of the pursuing officers collided with a wall, whilst the 51-year-old managed to escape. In the incident, a police officer was injured in the lower extremities and was transferred to hospital for first aid treatment.
Authorities continue to search for the perpetrator. The investigation into locating the driver and clarifying the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
