Break-in with knife at Mandras Police Station – 31-year-old perpetrator seriously injured
On the afternoon of Friday 4 September 2026, a 31-year-old man broke into Mandras Police Station armed with a knife, threatening the on-duty police officers. According to Newsit.gr, the perpetrator ignored repeated orders to comply and was ultimately shot by a police officer, resulting in serious injuries.
Two eyewitnesses who were at the station at the time for identity document applications described the scenes that unfolded to Newsit.gr. "We were at the office to get identity documents and suddenly we heard the police officers shouting at each other 'if you have a weapon, draw it, bring it'," they said characteristically.
According to their testimony, the man first broke the entrance door, which the officer was attempting to keep shut. "He broke the glass and the officer was cut. He came inside, had the knife with him and was threatening the officer," the witnesses described.
The perpetrator reached the first floor, where the witnesses themselves were located. There, while the officer was aiming at him with his service weapon and asking him to drop the knife, the 31-year-old not only refused, but was steadily moving closer. "The man tells him 'shoot, shoot, shoot, why don't you shoot me?'," they said. "The officer was forced to shoot him," they concluded.
According to Giorgos Kalliakmanis, who spoke to Live News, the 31-year-old is said to have threatened with the knife a security guard who was stationed outside the station, before even breaking into the building.
The injured man was transported by EKAB ambulance to Thriasio Hospital, where he was hospitalised in serious condition with a through-and-through wound to the chest and abdomen, awaiting surgery.
According to the report by Vasilis Lampropoulos on Live News, the incident is said to have had a retaliatory character. The 31-year-old had previously been arrested for domestic violence and had been referred to a psychiatric institution.
The perpetrator's history includes a series of serious incidents. In April 2025 he had attempted to take his own life, a fact that led to his involuntary confinement at Dromokaitio. In October of the same year he was arrested for insulting and threatening a neighbour with an air gun. In 2015 he had also been arrested following a domestic incident during which he threatened his partner and her mother with a knife at their home in Acharnes — a fact that led at the time to his involuntary psychiatric examination. According to reports, the perpetrator faces psychological problems.
