46-year-old took over €175,000 from 84-year-old woman by exploiting their friendship

Over €175,000 in cash, jewellery and bank deposits were taken by a 46-year-old from an 84-year-old woman in Thessaloniki, by exploiting the friendly relationship he maintained with the elderly woman, as reported by in.gr.

According to a police announcement, in October 2024 the accused obtained the keys to the woman's house and removed €12,000 in cash from inside, as well as jewellery worth approximately €100,000.

He then arranged a telephone connection in the name of the 84-year-old. His associates went to a bank branch in Piraeus, where using a forged identity card they removed a total of €63,902.50 from her bank account — through cash withdrawals and e-banking.

The case was solved by police officers of the White Tower Crime Investigation and Solution Department. A case file was opened against the 46-year-old for aggravated theft, computer fraud and forgery. The case file will be submitted to the competent prosecutor of the court of first instance.
