"Tax authority satellite" fraud in Lamia – jewellery worth €15,000 in fraudsters' hands

On the afternoon of Thursday, 15 October 2026, a 76-year-old woman in Amouri, Lamia fell victim to a telephone scam and handed over jewellery worth over €15,000 to unknown individuals, according to reports by Newsit.gr.

According to the report, the perpetrators contacted the woman by telephone whilst she was at home with her husband. They informed her that a "tax authority satellite" was about to pass over the area and record money and jewellery that were located in residences.

Exploiting the anxiety they had caused, they managed to convince the elderly woman to hand over her jewellery. At 19:00, a person appeared at the door of the house, collected the jewellery and disappeared at high speed in a black car, inside which was also an accomplice.

Police officers rushed to the scene to record the incident and gather evidence. According to lamianow, the vehicle has already been identified in material from security cameras.

The same "satellite" method had been used previously in August 2026 in Boeotia, where a 90-year-old woman lost approximately €400,000 in cash, as well as jewellery of significant value.
