Radioactivity fraud takes €15,000 from 90-year-old woman in Thrapano, Heraklion

A 90-year-old woman in Thrapano, Heraklion fell victim to a telephone scam, losing €15,000 along with personal documents. The incident was reported to the authorities yesterday, according to Dikastiko.gr.

The perpetrators called the elderly woman's landline repeatedly until she answered. The man on the other end of the line presented himself as a DEDDIE employee and claimed that an inspection had been carried out at her home, during which the presence of "radioactivity" had been detected.

The 90-year-old, according to her report, believed the claim and followed the fraudsters' instructions. She took out of her house a bag that contained €15,000, personal items, two remote controls and a blood pressure monitor.

The perpetrators also took her police identity card and health booklet, which the elderly woman had also taken out of her home following their instructions.

The competent authorities are investigating the case and seeking information to identify the perpetrators, who remain at large.
