Arrests in Lykovrysi following fraud against elderly woman and dramatic pursuit
Two individuals, aged 18 and 20, were arrested in Lykovrysi following a dramatic pursuit, according to businessdaily.gr. They had previously defrauded a 90-year-old woman and stolen 700 euros in cash, a gold coin and jewellery of unknown but significant value from her.
The chain of events was initiated by an off-duty police officer from the DIAS unit, who observed two individuals moving suspiciously outside the lobby of an apartment building at the corner of Georgios Papandreou and Eirini streets. A car with two other occupants was waiting for them at the location.
After the service was notified, a DIAS team located the suspicious vehicle on Eirini avenue, near a petrol station. When a signal was given to stop, the driver accelerated and drove in the opposite direction on Dexamenis street, triggering a pursuit.
At the intersection of Dexamenis and Vougaroktonos streets, the vehicle collided head-on with another car and struck two parked vehicles, causing material damage. The driver of the involved vehicle received first aid but declined transport by an EKAV ambulance.
After the collision, all four occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Police officers managed to locate and arrest the two young men, who were taken to the competent Criminal Investigation and Detection Department. The other two escaped.
Police officers who went to the apartment building found the 90-year-old woman, who reported that these individuals had stolen the money and jewellery from her. A file was opened against the arrested individuals for fraud and disobedience, according to police sources.
