Fraud in Naxos: Two arrested for posing as accountants and stealing jewellery from four women
Two people were arrested in Naxos on Wednesday 3 June 2026 after defrauding four women by impersonating employees of an accounting firm.
Arrest of two fraudsters in Naxos – stole jewellery under pretext of tax exemption
According to the Newspaper of Editors, two people — a 31-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman — were arrested on Wednesday 3 June 2026 in the afternoon by police officers from the Naxos and Minor Cyclades Police Department following a fraud case against residents of the island. Both are accused of joint fraud.
The 31-year-old telephoned residents of Naxos impersonating an accounting firm employee. He persuaded them that they needed to hand over the jewellery they kept at home to a supposed colleague of his so that it could be "registered" and their taxation avoided. Four women from the island fell for the scheme and handed over their valuables at a predetermined meeting point.
The 31-year-old was located first. The 22-year-old was arrested later with the assistance of the Port Authority of Paros at the moment she was attempting to board a ship bound for Piraeus.
The jewellery found in their possession was seized and returned to its rightful owners. The two accused will be brought before the Prosecutor of Naxos.
