EFKA ring: What the recorded conversations reveal before the arrests

Telephone conversations of the alleged members of the ring accused of defrauding EFKA have become public, according to reporting by Ethnos. The recorded exchanges capture considerable panic just days before the arrests, with the alleged leader of the organisation, Filippos Kampouris, at the centre.

Orders to avoid detection

According to OPEN, which brought the conversations to light, Kampouris's orders to the members of the group were categorical. In one of the conversations, the alleged leader gives explicit instructions:

> "If some unknown number calls you asking where you live and so on, hang up on them. And never give that address. If they call and you don't know them, hang up in their face and block them."

The member of the ring responds: "OK, OK, Filippe."

At another point in the recordings, a member of the organisation asks Kampouris if "the shop opened", and he responds: "No and probably won't either. Cheers."

Conversation with wife about money transfer

In a separate recorded conversation, Filippos Kampouris informs his wife about transferring a sum of money:

> Kampouris: "I'm going to get 10 grand and I'm coming back, honey." > Wife: "OK, baby."

Financial and medical activities under investigation

At the centre of the investigative inquiries are financial transactions and medical activities dating from 2013. On 11 October, all 11 members of the ring are expected to give their defence statements. The accused face, in each case, five felonies, while the offence of tax evasion is also being examined in parallel.

The defence line

On the part of the defence, it is argued that the recorded conversations do not constitute any criminal offence. At the same time, the attribution of felonies for the years 2013, 2014 and 2015 is contested, as the case file is based — as is stated — on a single complaint from 2026, without additional evidence.

The accountants' revelations

Of particular interest is the involvement of two accountants, who claim that they repeatedly informed the alleged leader about his debts to the state and pressed him to proceed with settlements. According to them, written emails confirm their repeated complaints.

The two accountants left in early 2025, as the accused failed to pay even their fees. During the same period, according to information that has come to the knowledge of the authorities, Kampouris maintained outstanding liabilities in companies in which he participated as a silent partner.
