Bomb threat at Piraeus Prosecutor's Office – building evacuated and Skouze Street closed
An unknown caller telephoned at 10:10 on Tuesday reporting an explosive device at the judicial building. The building was evacuated as a precaution and traffic was halted on Skouze Street.
Alert at Piraeus Prosecutor's Office following threatening telephone call about bomb
An alert was sounded on the morning of Tuesday, 29 September at the Piraeus Prosecutor's Office following a threatening telephone call about the placement of an explosive device at the judicial building, according to flash.gr.
According to reports, the unknown caller initially contacted the Piraeus Prosecutor's Office directly and subsequently, at 10:10, called the emergency number "100", warning of the presence of a bomb in the building.
The authorities were immediately mobilised and a precautionary evacuation of the judicial building was ordered. Judicial officers, lawyers, employees and members of the public were removed from the courthouse premises. A unit from the Explosives Disposal Department (TEEM) is expected to arrive at the scene for a thorough examination.
Traffic arrangements
As part of security measures, vehicular traffic has been halted on Skouze Street from the level of Notara Street in Piraeus.
Similar incident on 24 September
Flash.gr reports that a few days earlier, on Thursday, 24 September, a similar incident occurred: an unknown caller telephoned and reported that a bomb had been placed at the courthouse without providing a specific time of detonation. Police forces cordoned off the area, evacuation of the buildings took place and a unit of bomb disposal experts from the Hellenic Police attended the scene to carry out the prescribed checks. Following completion of the checks, no suspicious object was found and the streets were reopened to traffic.
