Prosecution for attempted murder against two neo-Nazis following attack in Elefsina

The prosecutor has brought charges of attempted murder against two neo-Nazis who attacked a 32-year-old anti-fascist with a knife in Elefsina. According to Ethnos, police searches at the perpetrators' residences revealed an arsenal containing knives and knuckledusters, as well as extensive fascist and Nazi material.

What police found in the suspects' homes

At the 22-year-old suspect's residence, two knives were confiscated — including one of the "butterfly" type — a knuckleduster, hoods, an anti-asphyxiation mask, and a book titled "National Socialism". Leaflets and stickers bearing fascist slogans were also found, including material from "Autonomous Nationalist Youth of Athens".

At the 18-year-old's residence, who surrendered to authorities on the same day, clothing was confiscated — including a hoodie stamped "MEGARA GATE 13" and a t-shirt stamped "WEST BLOCK PANATHINAIKOS" — bone-type motorcycle gloves, a motorcycle helmet, a handheld torch, as well as stickers bearing the inscriptions "AUTONOMOUS NATIONALIST YOUTH OF ATHENS" and "HAIDARI GATE 13".

Timeline of the attack on Constantinoupoleos Street

According to the case file, the two perpetrators approached the 32-year-old on Constantinoupoleos Street in Elefsina and wounded him with a knife. According to reports from APA-MPE, the perpetrators told the victim "we are in charge here".

The 32-year-old, speaking to Mega, described the progression of the attack: "I was outside my house, walking my dogs. That's when I was attacked by the two neo-Nazis. One passed by, went away, brought his friend back and they returned. They started telling me 'you are so-and-so, you're an anti-fascist, you're left-wing'. They told me 'we are fascists, we will deal with you, we will show you'".

When he asked the perpetrators why they came after him, the answer he received was revealing: "Listen, we don't have anything against you, but you will know those we do have something with. We came after you because you're left-wing, because you're an anti-fascist and we are fascists".

"I didn't realise they would try to kill me"

The victim described the moment the attack escalated: "One was wearing a helmet, the other had his facial features visible. At that moment I didn't realise this was such an intense murderous attack. I managed to let go of my dogs. I made a mistake, I approached them because they told me 'come here'".

When one perpetrator fell after the victim's reaction, he screamed at the other "give it to him, give it to him, slit his throat". The 32-year-old sustained two deep knife wounds to his legs, and narrowly avoided a third strike aimed at the upper abdomen towards the chest. "Two people in helmets against one and yet they chose, because they could do nothing else, to try to kill me", he stressed.

After the attack, the 32-year-old was holding his wound with his hand from which "blood was spurting from the artery" as he made his way to Elefsina Health Centre.

A random passer-by saved his life

While bleeding, a driver passing by proved crucial. "A man picked me up who was passing by, who in all likelihood saved my life. I stopped his car and told him 'mate, I've been stabbed' and he said 'get in'", the 32-year-old said.

At that moment the victim told the stranger: "If I die today… he stabbed me, make sure you tell them". The driver did not leave — he took him to the Health Centre.

The 32-year-old stated that he does not yet know whether he will avoid surgery on his right leg. "I've been stitched on both legs, because I'm punctured in both. The others are deep wounds", he clarified.

"This thing must stop"

The 32-year-old anti-fascist sent his own message: "This thing must stop from the people. No matter where you stand politically, you cannot associate with Nazis".

Following the attack, a large anti-fascist rally was held in Elefsina.
