Release of 'Violanta' owner: lawyers pledge support for families
The owner of the Violanta factory was released today, seven months after the explosion that claimed the lives of five workers. His lawyers pledged permanent support for the families of the victims.

The owner of the Violanta factory, Konstantinos Tziortziotis, was released today, having been held in provisional custody last February. The development marks a new chapter in the legal case that emerged from the tragedy at the plant, where an underground propane gas leak triggered an explosion resulting in the deaths of five workers.
According to Dikastiko.gr, his lawyers Michalis Dimitrakopoulos and Giorgos Panagiotou issued a joint statement immediately after his release. "The company will be a support to the children and the families of the victims forever," they said characteristically, adding that "it is the least that can be done, substantively honouring their memory."
In their full statement, the two lawyers described the weight of the seven months that had elapsed since the day of the explosion: "Months of mental anguish for the families of the victims, months of anxiety for the 350 workers about their jobs, months of distress for Konstantino Tziortziotis, because the women who were lost tragically were friends, fellow townspeople, his own people."
The lawyers emphasised that Tziortziotis himself experienced personal suffering over the loss of the five women, stressing the human bonds that connected him to them. However, they concluded with a commitment: "These women will unfortunately not return, but the company will be a support to the children and the families of the victims forever."
The explosion at Violanta, which was attributed to an underground propane gas leak, had caused shock and had left the jobs of the factory's 350 workers in uncertainty.
