The 20-year-old who was shot by police officers during a pursuit in Argos last Wednesday has succumbed to his injuries after several days of hospitalisation in an Intensive Care Unit. This development has led to a change in the legal framework for the two officers involved.
According to information from Mega, the charges faced by the two men are set to become more severe. Instead of attempted homicide with possible intent, they will now be charged with homicide with possible intent. The initial prosecution brought against them also included violations of firearms legislation and concerned acts committed in a calm mental state.
On Saturday, 11 July, following lengthy examinations before an examining magistrate and prosecutor, both officers were remanded in custody. During their examination, the accused denied that they had intended to kill the victim. They maintained that the shootings were of a warning character and were aimed at intimidating the young man to stop and be apprehended.
In their statements, they described how they were moving during the incident and that the shots were not aimed at injuring the suspect. "Our shots were warning shots, to intimidate him and force him to stop so we could apprehend him. In no way did we aim at the suspect with the intention of injuring him. We were running and so was he," they allegedly stated.
