A 20-year-old man died in an Athens hospital following a police pursuit in Argos where he was shot by members of OPKE. The 20-year-old was hospitalised on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit of KAT, but his body could not endure and he died on 12 July.
The two police officers involved in the incident were brought before the examining magistrate of Nafplio. Following lengthy questioning, they were deemed remanded in custody. They face prosecution for attempted manslaughter with possible malice, and are also facing charges of violation of weapons legislation.
A television channel brought to light an image from an MRI scan of the victim's head. In the imaging, the bullet embedded in the skull is visible. The legal representative of the unfortunate young man's mother, Maria Sfetsou, stressed that the findings do not indicate an exit wound, as the bullet is intact. According to her, the data lead to the conclusion that it was a direct shot.
Meanwhile, the medical report from Thriasio hospital, where the 20-year-old was initially transferred, was made public. In it there is reference to a foreign body described characteristically as "resembling a bullet frontal right".
According to official information, the young driver possessed an air rifle, which has been seized. Officers who arrived at the scene found thirteen cartridges. A ballistics analysis is expected to clarify whether the shots were warning shots or directly targeted at the driver.
