A court has imposed a ten-month prison sentence and an administrative fine of €4,150 on a 46-year-old man who set fire using an open flame in a camp in Aspropyrgos.

A court has imposed a ten-month prison sentence and a monetary fine of €4,150 on a 46-year-old man for deliberate arson that took place in Aspropyrgos.
The incident was recorded on Monday, 13 July 2026, at around 11:00 in the morning, in the Sofo area. The man used an open flame — likely matches or a lighter — and set fire to an area within a camp.
Rubbish, dry grass and papers were consumed by the flames over an area of approximately 100 square metres. The relevant authorities were mobilised immediately.
The Investigative Unit for Combating Arson Offences of Western Attica, under the Fire Service, conducted an immediate preliminary investigation. The suspect was located and arrested following the flagrante delicto procedure.
He was brought before the Public Prosecutor's Office, where criminal prosecution was initiated for deliberate arson. A trial followed, during which the aforementioned sentence was imposed.
