Police operation against electricity theft in Aspropirgos and Koropi – 19 arrests

Nineteen people were arrested on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 during simultaneous special police operations in Aspropirgos and Koropi, according to Newsit.gr.
In the operation in the Aspropirgos settlement, police officers from the Greek Police and Traffic Police participated. Police dogs and drones were used for aerial surveillance in the searches.
In Aspropirgos, twelve people were arrested for electricity theft, water theft, and receiving or disposing of proceeds of crime. Concurrently, 36 violations of the traffic code were recorded for driving without a licence, mobile phone use, failure to wear a helmet, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
A team from the Public Power Corporation removed cables totalling 1,120 metres in length that were being used for illegal connection to the network, whilst 13 power disconnections were carried out.
In Koropi the police conducted a wide-ranging operation in settlements in the area. Seven people were arrested there and files were opened for electricity theft, water theft, and violations of environmental and building regulations. Twenty-nine violations were also recorded relating to environmental protection, building regulations, and the traffic code.
The files from both operations were submitted to the competent prosecutor.
