Police officer sentenced to five years imprisonment for abuse of wife and children in Amalida
The Misdemeanour Court of Amalida imposed a sentence of five years and three months imprisonment on a police officer serving in the security forces, following his conviction for violent behaviour within his family. The decision does not provide for suspension, meaning the sentence is immediately enforceable.
The defendant was found guilty of a series of offences, including threats against the family, continuous insults and bodily harm. The incidents that led to the prosecution were reported by his wife, who testified that she had suffered beatings even during her pregnancy.
The couple married in 2013, and several years later their marriage entered a crisis. The complaint was filed in 2022 and the case was tried recently. The convicted man did not appear at trial and remains at large without bail, as he failed to appear before the judicial authorities.
