An active-duty officer of the Hellenic Police was apprehended by colleagues in Chania. Two separate cases are pending against him.
Police officer arrested in Crete on drug and domestic violence charges
Officers of the local Police Service in Chania proceeded to arrest an active-duty officer of the Hellenic Police. The incident was reported by the local media outlet patris.gr.
The police officer in question is not from the area, but has been serving in Crete on secondment lasting several years. He was previously assigned to a critical post within the Security Directorate of Chania.
The charges he faces are twofold. One concerns his involvement with psychotropic substances — specifically cannabis and cocaine. The other charge relates to violent behaviour within his domestic environment. According to initial indications, the incidents of domestic abuse do not constitute a flagrant delict, which differs from the substance case.
Previously, his name had surfaced in another report concerning indecent acts against a child under ten years of age, however that case file was archived.
He has now been taken before the prosecutor to initiate the proper legal procedures.
