Atropine in meals of ex-husband – three arrests in Peristeri

A 41-year-old woman was arrested in Peristeri after security cameras recorded her adding atropine to the food of her ex-husband, a military doctor. According to Dikastiko.gr, in the car of her parents — who were arrested as accomplices — 10ml of atropine, gloves and a mask were found and confiscated.

The first symptoms appeared last February. The military doctor experienced strange discomfort after meals, but did not suspect the mother of their minor child.

The discovery came two months before the arrest, during an outing at a restaurant in the northern suburbs. The doctor requested the establishment's video footage and saw the 41-year-old secretly adding a liquid to his glass.

Following this incident, the doctor installed a closed-circuit surveillance system in his home, aiming to gather evidence. On the afternoon of Sunday, 11 October, the camera recorded the 41-year-old placing an unknown substance in food, including in a honey jar.

Watching the images in live broadcast, the man immediately alerted the authorities. Police rushed to the scene and pursued the woman, who was eventually immobilised by officers from the DIAS unit.

A short distance from the arrest location, the parents of the 41-year-old were found, who had been waiting for her inside their car. They were also arrested as accomplices. In their vehicle, 10ml of atropine was confiscated, as well as medical equipment — gloves and a mask.

The case is now in the hands of the judiciary. The confiscated substance was sent for laboratory analysis to the General Chemical State Laboratory.
