Two of three police officers were found guilty by a mixed jury court of sexual assault against a young woman inside a police station in 2022. The third officer was acquitted.

The mixed jury court of the capital has issued a ruling in the case of sexual assault against a 19-year-old that took place inside the Omonia police station in October 2022.
Judges decided by majority that two of the three accused police officers committed the act jointly without the victim's consent. The initial charge of gang rape was modified to that of joint rape.
For one of the two convicted officers, the court unanimously decided that he also committed the offence of unlawful processing of personal data. According to the indictment, the officer in question had hidden a camera in his bag and recorded what happened in the station's changing rooms.
The third accused officer, who faced the charge of complicity, was acquitted by majority by the court.
The judges' ruling contradicted the prosecutor's recommendation, which had proposed acquittal for all three. The prosecutor had highlighted significant gaps and contradictions in the complainant's testimony, whilst characterising the conduct of the accused as a serious disciplinary offence. Nevertheless, he had requested the conviction of one of the three for violation of personal data protection due to the video recording.
According to Newsbeast, the prosecutor stated during his address: "The commission of the sexual act was proven, but it was not proven that there was no consent."
The court will convene again later today to announce the sentences to be imposed on the two convicted officers.
