An Athens court has found two police officers guilty of sexual assault on a 19-year-old inside a police station in 2022. A third colleague was acquitted.

A court in the capital has found two of three officers guilty who had been referred for trial in a case of sexual violence against a 19-year-old woman inside a Greek Police facility in the city centre. The incident occurred in the autumn of 2022.
According to reports by ERT, the woman stated that on that evening she approached two members of the DIAS unit who were patrolling near Thiseio, as she was experiencing a problem at her workplace. The men told her to follow them to the service building at Omonia. There, according to her account, two of them took her to a changing room and engaged in sexual acts against her will. One of them even recorded the incident with a miniature device he had hidden in his holster.
The court did not accept the defendants' claim that the contact was made with the woman's consent. It downgraded the charge from gang sexual assault to complicity in committing such an act. One of the two was found guilty also of unlawful recording of images, due to the use of the camera. The third man, who faced a charge of complicity, was acquitted by a relative majority.
Both men found guilty received the mitigating factor of previous honest conduct. The court released them, suspending the sentence until the case is examined at a higher level.
