Tension at Karditsa Mixed Jury Court of Appeal — Mangos ejected from courtroom
The trial of six police officers at the Karditsa Mixed Jury Court of Appeal is ongoing, according to Dikastiko.gr. The officers are charged with felony charges relating to the beating of Vasilis Mangos on 14 June 2020.
Tension erupted during the testimony of an eyewitness — the person who found Vasilis Mangos outside the police station immediately after his arrest. The witness testified that Mangos was in poor physical and psychological condition, and that Mangos had told him that he had been struck both outside the courts and within the station. The witness also testified that he was not given water, despite asking for it.
The fact that Vasilis Mangos was not treated as an injured person during his stay at the Police Directorate had previously been testified to in an earlier hearing by his father, Yiannis Mangos.
The defence counsel for the accused police officers, Mr. Sinélis, challenged the credibility of the eyewitness's testimony, a fact which provoked a strong reaction from Yiannis Mangos. The presiding judge decided to permanently eject Yiannis Mangos from the courtroom for the remainder of today's hearing.
