Trial over police officer's death in Chalcidice: Adjournment to 29 October
The Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki adjourned the trial for the hit-and-run that killed a police officer in Agios Nikolaos, Chalcidice. The hearing resumes on 29 October.

Adjournment in trial over death of police officer and 33-year-old in Chalcidice
The continuation of the trial, which was interrupted on Wednesday at the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, has been scheduled for 29 October. The trial concerns the hit-and-run that claimed the lives of a 46-year-old police officer and a 33-year-old in April 2025 near Agios Nikolaos, Chalcidice, according to Dikastiko.gr.
Two defendants are in the dock: a 27-year-old, who faces a charge of wilful homicide (felony) for the death of the 33-year-old, and a 63-year-old, who is accused of manslaughter through negligence as the driver of the lorry that struck the two victims (misdemeanour). The trial commenced on the afternoon with the constitution of the court, the drawing of jurors, the examination of witnesses and submissions from the parties.
Events of 5 April 2025
The incident unfolded in the early morning of 5 April 2025 at the 41-kilometre mark of the provincial road Nea Moudania–Sarti. There, in the middle of the roadway, a confrontation broke out between the 27-year-old and the 33-year-old. The 33-year-old fell unconscious on the road and was subsequently struck by a passing small lorry, resulting in his death.
At the same time, the 46-year-old police officer, a member of a patrol car that had attended the scene to manage the situation, was seriously injured by the same hit-and-run. The police officer, mother of four children, succumbed to her injuries two months later, following prolonged hospitalisation.
The forensic report and the elevation of charges
The forensic report on the death of the 33-year-old played a decisive role in shaping the charges. Among the findings, a blow to the face was identified, which was assessed to have been caused by a large ring worn by the 27-year-old and reportedly functioned as brass knuckles. According to the committal order, the death of the 33-year-old resulted both from this blow and from the hit-and-run.
On the basis of these facts, the prosecutor at the Polygiros district court elevated the original charge against the 27-year-old — from dangerous bodily harm (misdemeanour) — to wilful homicide. Following his plea, the 27-year-old was remanded in custody, where he remained for 14 months.
Release conditions
Following a previous adjournment of the trial, the 27-year-old was released on restrictive conditions: electronic surveillance, prohibition on leaving the country, mandatory appearance twice a month at the police station of his place of residence, and payment of a financial bond of 10,000 euros. The 63-year-old co-defendant has remained free from the outset with a restrictive condition.
The hearing of the case resumes on 29 October before the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki.
