The second-instance trial for the femicide of 28-year-old Kyriaki Griva has commenced at the Appeals Court, with her family present and seeking full vindication, according to reports from Naftemporiki.
The victim's mother, Despina Kallea, stated that her primary objective is the restoration of justice for her daughter. At the same time, she expressed the wish for the case to serve as a "message" to women who "are in danger, anxious, afraid or feel they are in a dead end."
Strong is the family's reaction to the manner of detention of the man sentenced to life imprisonment. The perpetrator is being held at the Psychiatric Ward for Detainees of Korydallos prison rather than in a conventional wing of a correctional facility.
Kyriaki's father, Thanasis Griva, commented on the accused's absence from the opening of the second-instance trial, noting that neither he nor his lawyer appeared in court. Griva expressed the conviction that the proceedings would continue and that responsibilities would be assigned to all those involved.
The mother's lawyer, Elena Tzouli, characterised the convicted man's detention at the psychiatric ward as "unlawful" and announced an appeal to the Minister of Citizen Protection. The aim, as she stated, is to obtain clear answers regarding the reasons the convicted man remains at the Korydallos Psychiatric Ward for Detainees.
Meanwhile, the family is awaiting developments in a second related legal matter. Four police officers from the Agioi Anargyroi Police Department — the external guard, the duty officer, the supervisor and the dispatcher of the Immediate Action unit — are facing charges in the degree of felony for fatal exposure. A committal order has already been issued and the trial date is awaited.
The case concerns the actions and omissions recorded during Kyriaki's time outside the Agioi Anargyroi Police Department, where she ultimately suffered the fatal attack.
