Conviction of Narcotics Investigation Official in Sky ECC Trial — Adjournment for the "Mastermind"

The three-judge Court of Appeal for Felonies delivered its verdict in the Sky ECC case, convicting I.T., a senior official from the Narcotics Investigation unit, on all charges brought against him. According to Documento, the case concerns a drug trafficking network with a turnover of €12,000,000, and the prosecution was based exclusively on intercepted conversations from the encrypted application Sky ECC, which had been obtained by the French authorities.

A key turning point is the court's decision regarding S.P., who had been characterised as the central pillar of the organisation. The judges ordered a separation of the case file regarding him, with the aim of establishing with certainty whether he was the one communicating via the disputed PIN code. The Directorate of Criminal Investigation undertook to conduct a specialised comparison between the audio documents reproduced in court and the voice of the defendant.

By contrast, two police officials were fully acquitted. A former officer from the Internal Affairs Service, who was accused of neglecting the case, was found not guilty. S.T., a former official from the Narcotics Investigation and Organised Crime unit, was also acquitted due to doubts, as the indictment against him was based exclusively on an anonymous telephone call.

Regarding the remaining defendants, the court rejected claims of substance addiction. Z.K. was acquitted of the charge of participation in a criminal organisation, but was found guilty of continuous trafficking involving 15 kilograms of cannabis and cocaine. M.G. was convicted both for membership in the organisation and for trafficking.

The sentences were severe for K.G., who was found guilty on all charges: membership in a criminal organisation, drug trafficking and continuous bribery.

Finally, regarding D.P., presented as a representative of Sky ECC devices, the court accepted the claim of res judicata: he was acquitted of the formation of a criminal organisation, but was convicted for one specific trafficking act.
