The Larissa appeal court appointed three lawyers to the defendant accused in the Tempi tragedy, who had requested legal representation due to financial hardship.

The three-member felony appeal court of Larissa proceeded to appoint three legal representatives for Pavlos Kouzis, one of the defendants in the railway tragedy case at Tempi. The decision was made following a request from the defendant himself, who in the previous hearing had stated that he could no longer cover the costs of his previous lawyer.
The court president selected Ioannis Iliades, Alexandra Konstantinidou and Dimitrios Notas from the list of the Larissa bar association. Upon taking on the role, Mr Iliades stated that the three lawyers had initially expressed reservations about their role, but nevertheless had declared themselves ready to take it on if asked. "We do not wish to cause a disruption of proceedings," he emphasised.
For her part, the court president requested the continuation of the trial without delays, noting that the case is at a critical stage. "We want to proceed from the point where we stopped and to hear all the defence counsels. The court does not seek annulments, nor does it seek delays," she stated characteristically.
Ms Konstantinidou expressed her surprise at the appointment, noting that none of the three had received prior notice. "We will not allow ourselves to be the cause of an adjournment. However, as lawyers we have a duty to defend every defendant in the proper manner," she added.
The three lawyers ultimately accepted their appointment. The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday, 7 July. Present at today's session were defendants Pavlos Kouzis, Dimitris Nikolaou and Spyros Pateras.
