Criminal prosecution has been brought against 13 people implicated in a case of unlawful OPEKEPE subsidies in Kozani and Agrinio. The defendants face serious charges, including participation in a criminal organisation, fraud and laundering of proceeds from illegal activities.

The damage to the state treasury amounts to 2.5 million euros, a sum relating to subsidies that were illegally disbursed during the period 2019–2024. The funds were intended for farmers, yet are alleged to have been directed to individuals who did not meet the criteria.

The 13 defendants, including a former OPEKEPE employee, were brought before an investigating magistrate. Authorities estimate that the group had organised a complex scheme for the absorption of EU funds.
