Double murder in Aigion: Toxicology tests and testimony shed light on case

Police investigations are proceeding in full swing into the double murder that shocked the Longos area in Aigion. Found dead inside their home were 54-year-old Maria and her 26-year-old Italian partner, Marco. Elsewhere in the house, the 65-year-old partner of the woman was also found dead.

A friend of Olympios, the son of the 54-year-old from a previous relationship, gave a statement to police that the 26-year-old had confided in her his concerns about his mother's mental health. In a conversation on 28 May, the young man reportedly told her that his mother could not manage the situation and claimed that third parties had forced her to kill the Italian. Olympios believed that the woman had reached the point of threatening physical harm to her partner.

According to the testimony, Olympios had grown up in Longos with his mother and Marco. Marco had met his mother 16 years previously. The young man did not regard the Italian as a paternal figure, as he had been led to believe that his biological father had died. The witness described Marco as a calm and well-intentioned person.

The prosecuting authorities are investigating data from electronic devices found within the house. Among these, an automatic electric vacuum cleaner may provide useful information about the chronological sequence of events and the last movements within the space.

The visual and audio material from closed-circuit cameras examined so far does not show the entry of any other person into the residence during the critical period. Meanwhile, laboratory analyses of the 65-year-old detected substances that induce sleep, as well as traces of cannabis.

These findings are being evaluated by the competent authorities and incorporated into the totality of the data being investigated. The officers are awaiting the results of the scientific tests and forensic assessments, which are expected to play a substantial role in clarifying the matter.
