The case of the double homicide in Longos, Aigion is taking unexpected dimensions, as new findings cloud the picture that authorities had initially formed. The 54-year-old Maria Lampropoulos and her 26-year-old son Olympios were found brutally murdered inside their home in the early hours of 9 June.
The 65-year-old partner of the woman, an Italian national, remains in prison following his remand. Despite his detention, he maintains that he had no connection to the deaths. He claims he was in deep sleep on the living room sofa due to cannabis and sleeping pill consumption, and did not notice any quarrel.
According to reports by Real.gr, the Homicide Division of the Greek Police is now focusing on a critical detail: the wounds the 54-year-old woman had on her hands. Initially they had been assessed as defensive, meaning they were caused as the woman attempted to protect herself from a knife attack. However, following more careful examination, investigators are now characterising them as "tentative".
This term typically describes superficial wounds inflicted by people thinking of harming themselves. Such injuries often precede a more serious attempt, as the person initially hesitates. This fact raises serious questions, particularly since the deceased was right-handed and all the wounds were found on the left side of her body.
The fatal blow that cost her her life was a knife wound in the heart area. The police are awaiting the pathologist's final report to confirm whether the wounds on her hands were indeed tentative and to establish exactly what the fatal blows were.
The investigation faces significant obstacles. No fingerprints have been found, nor genetic material on the weapons of the crime or in the room with the bodies. The Italian, former executive of the news agency ANSA, met Maria in 2010 and came to live with her in Greece two years later. His siblings in the neighbouring country have expressed willingness to travel to Greece and testify in his favour if requested.
