The results of laboratory analyses on the blood of the 65-year-old man from Italy, who faces charges for the murder of a mother and son in Aigion, have brought new information to light. Experts detected traces of cannabis indica in his system as well as substances contained in sleeping medications.
According to information reported by ERT, the aforementioned findings tend to corroborate the defendant's claims. He has maintained from the outset that he had no involvement in the double crime, as he was in a state of sleep and neither heard sounds nor perceived any other activity. In his initial statement, he reported that he woke between 7:30 and 8:00 in the morning, tried to enter his partner's room but the door was locked. A few hours later, at 11:00, he managed to open the door and found the two victims dead.
The crime came to light on 9 June, when the 65-year-old asked a neighbourhood resident to notify the prosecuting authorities. The coroner who arrived at the scene determined that the victims' death had occurred several hours earlier, approximately between 6:00 and 7:00 in the morning. The defendant maintained that during that time period he was in a different room in the house and had not noticed anything whatsoever.
The competent authorities continue to investigate the case from all angles, gathering supplementary statements and examining every possible scenario. Additionally, at the centre of investigators' attention are the electronic devices found inside the house.
