Double murder in Aigio: 65-year-old Italian partner of victims remanded in custody
A 65-year-old man from Italy is being held in Korydallos Prison, considered the main suspect in the fatal double crime that occurred in Longos, Aigio. The victims were his 54-year-old partner and her son. So far, investigations have not clearly established whether there was a fourth person at the crime scene.
Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidi gave an interview to the ERT news channel and the programme "Syndéseis", regarding the latest developments in the case. As she stated, DNA from the mother was detected on the body of her son and vice versa, a fact which falls within the scope of normal contact between relatives.
She clarified that the presence of genetic material between mother and child does not constitute a conclusive finding. "I am unable to confirm what the suspect's defence lawyer claims, who has access to the case file. The investigation and forensic examinations continue and there is still evidence pending to be examined. For this reason we cannot yet have a complete picture," she stressed.
Notably significant are the statements of the friend who first alerted the authorities following communication with the suspect, as well as those of relatives of the two victims. The police authorities continue to evaluate all available evidence, with the aim of fully clarifying the motives and circumstances that led to the double death.
The Italian defendant maintained close ties with the two victims, with whom he lived in the wider Aigio area. The case has caused shock in the local community, whilst investigations are ongoing.
