Investigations into the deaths of a woman and her child in Aigio have taken a new turn, as laboratory analysis of the man being held revealed substances in his system.
According to reports by news outlets, including Newsbeast and Zougla, the 65-year-old Italian is said to have had cannabis residue and sedative pharmaceutical substances in his body. This data appears to support what he has maintained from the outset.
The accused insists on his innocence. He says that at the time of the incident he was in deep sleep and noticed nothing. Indeed, he suggested that the two victims may have come into conflict with one another.
One critical question, however, remains: genetic material found on the murder weapon matches neither the victims nor the detainee. The unknown DNA constitutes a significant mystery that police authorities are attempting to explain.
Despite this unexplained finding, the official position of the Police has not changed. A spokesperson for the Hellenic Police stated that there is no evidence indicating the presence of a third person in the house.
The crime was discovered on 9 June, when the Italian asked a neighbour to call the authorities. The medical examiner who arrived at the scene established that the two people had died earlier that morning, between 06:00 and 07:00.
Investigations are continuing at an intensive pace. Investigative services are gathering statements to piece together a complete picture, whilst final conclusions from forensic examinations are awaited, which will determine with precision the exact circumstances under which the mother and son lost their lives.
At the same time, specialists are examining all electronic devices found in the residence.
