According to in.gr, the murder of a 59-year-old woman found dead on 30 March at her residence in Evosmos, Thessaloniki, has been solved. A 47-year-old Greek national has been identified as the alleged perpetrator, who is already being held in a correctional facility.

A case file has been drawn up against the 47-year-old for wilful homicide, robbery committed with particular brutality, and violation of weapons legislation. He was arrested on 1 April 2026 following a warrant for a drugs case and was remanded in custody.

Discovery of the crime

The 59-year-old woman lived permanently in Germany and had come to Thessaloniki to buy a house. When a friend was unable to locate her, she notified the authorities. At 16:00 that day, the friend called the emergency services — police officers were forced to break the flat's window to enter.

Inside the house they found the woman dead, wrapped in a blanket, with her bag's strap around her neck. The medical examiner immediately classified the case as a criminal act. The on-site inspection also revealed signs of a search, whilst from inside the house a sum of money, jewellery and personal items had been removed.

Police investigation

An autopsy was ordered to establish the circumstances of death. As part of the investigation, findings from the crime scene were utilised, witness statements and video footage from the wider area were examined, and specialist investigative procedures were carried out. The combined evaluation of these elements led to the identification of the 47-year-old.

Extensive criminal history

The alleged perpetrator has engaged the attention of the authorities for a number of offences: membership of a criminal organisation, attempted homicide, drug trafficking and possession, facilitation of illegal entry of foreign nationals, falsification of a medical prescription, theft, assault, domestic violence and violation of weapons legislation.

The preliminary investigation was conducted by the Office for Crimes Against Life and Personal Freedom of the Department for the Prosecution of Crimes Against Life and Property.
