Kypséli: The past of the 43-year-old – the German woman he held imprisoned

Newsit.gr publishes the final photograph of the 43-year-old man accused of murdering the infant in Kypséli, taken alongside the 40-year-old German woman he had held captive and trafficked – just days before his arrest in that case in 2020.

This is the same man who, together with his partner, is alleged to have kept their dead infant in a container. He denies the murder, claiming the baby died from natural causes.

Meeting via Facebook and a trap in Greece

According to the evidence gathered at the time, the man – 38 years old at that time – met the German woman through Facebook and persuaded her to come to Greece. The woman visited the country for the first time at Christmas 2019 and stayed for approximately two weeks in a hotel. During that visit, he exchanges rings with her, telling her that he expects her to return to Greece to marry him.

The man had told her that he was hosting his ex-wife and their three children in his home. The German woman had met both women without suspecting anything.

"He locked me inside and took my passport"

The woman soon returned to Greece. As she later testified to the authorities, three days after her arrival, the man convinced her to leave the hotel and move into his home – an apartment on the first floor on Skiathou Street, in Kátó Patíssia.

"He told me I had to have sex with other men. I told him I was not going to do anything like that and he started beating me with punches and kicks all over my body. He took my mobile phone and my passport and kept me locked inside the house. A few days later, I actually started going to sexual appointments," the 40-year-old said in her testimony.

At the same time, the perpetrator had posted a photograph with her on social media, whilst simultaneously publishing escort advertisements featuring the German woman.

Escape and arrest

The woman managed to escape when the man forgot to lock the apartment door. She immediately made her way to Acharníon Street, where she informed the first police officers who rushed to help her.

The 38-year-old was then arrested and a case file was drawn up against him for abduction and human trafficking. He was remanded in custody for that case.

Five years later, the same man, now 43 years old, faces charges in a case that has caused fresh shock: the keeping of a dead infant in a container in Kypséli, with revelations about his past casting additional shadows over the case.
