Criminal prosecution for wilful homicide has been brought against two of the three arrested in connection with the death of the 49-year-old president of the Apesokario Community.

Three individuals arrested in the course of the investigation into the death of the president of the Apesokario Community, Alexandros Daskalakis, who passed away in March at the age of 49, were brought before the courts in Heraklion.
The judicial authority brought charges for wilful homicide against two of the three. These are a 32-year-old man from the wider area and a 59-year-old livestock farmer who was employed by the young man's family. The third, the father of the 32-year-old and also 59 years old, is accused of complicity.
The three men requested and were granted a postponement to prepare their defence, with the next hearing scheduled for Monday. They had initially been detained for violations of the law concerning weapons, as the investigation by the prosecuting authorities examines the causes of the injury that proved fatal for the president.
Police interest focused on the area after the coroner's finding that death may have resulted from a criminal act. This was followed by a preliminary examination to determine the exact circumstances under which Daskalakis lost his life.
The defence lawyers of the accused argued that the indictment is not based on sufficient evidence. According to the livestock farmer's lawyer, Theonymph Berki, the case file rests solely on testimonies from the victim's wife and a relative, with no other evidence emerging from the preliminary examination.
Relatives of the 49-year-old were found outside the Court building, expressing satisfaction that the case is proceeding through the courts.
