Daskalakis murder: Apesokari residents rally against illegal herders
A large crowd gathered at the General Assembly held in Apesokari, Heraklion, to discuss the illegal activities being perpetrated in the livestock sector and which are of considerable concern to the local community.
The participants, including residents and representatives of local organisations, decided to act together to protect themselves, their property and the environment of the area. A resolution was decided upon to be submitted to the relevant authorities, through which stricter inspections and full implementation of the laws governing the sector would be requested. Additionally, a further meeting was scheduled for the near future with the participation of additional associations and bodies, in order to strengthen joint action.
The residents appear determined to continue their initiatives until the issue is resolved.
This mobilisation comes in the wake of the murder of Alecos Daskalakis, who died from a head injury alleged to have been caused by a sharp object. Three individuals have been remanded in custody in connection with the case. Among them is a 57-year-old man who maintains his position as an independent municipal councillor in the municipality of Gortyna, despite having withdrawn from the Kokolakis faction. This particular individual was also involved in a previous case concerning the death of Vangelis Giakoumakis.
