The murder case of 28-year-old Kyriaki Griva is being heard on appeal, according to reports from naftemporiki.gr. The victim's mother, Despina Kallea, stated that her primary goal is the restoration of justice and the presentation of the case as a warning message for women facing violence. As she noted, she wishes the case to speak to women "who are in danger, struggling, afraid or feel they are in a hopeless situation".
The family has expressed strong opposition to the place of detention of the man sentenced to life imprisonment. The perpetrator remains in the Psychiatric Ward for Prisoners at Korydallos Prison, rather than in a standard wing of a correctional facility.
Kyriaki's father, Thanasis Griva, commented on the defendant's absence from the start of the second-instance trial, noting that neither he nor his lawyer appeared in court. Griva expressed his conviction that the process would continue and that responsibility would be attributed to each party involved.
The mother's lawyer, Elena Tzouli, characterised the detention of the convicted man in the psychiatric ward as "unlawful" and announced an appeal to the Minister of Citizen Protection. She is demanding clear answers on the reasons why the convicted man continues to remain in the Psychiatric Ward for Prisoners at Korydallos.
Meanwhile, the family is also monitoring a second legal matter connected with the death of the 28-year-old. Four police officers from the Agia Anargya Police Station – the external guard, the duty officer, the supervisor and the dispatcher of the Immediate Response unit – are expected to stand trial on felony charges for causing death through criminal negligence. A committal order has already been issued, and the setting of a trial date is pending.
The case concerns the actions and omissions recorded during Kyriaki's time outside the Agia Anargya Police Station, where she received the fatal attack.
