Intense jeering was directed at the 43-year-old accused of murdering Stavroula Leventakis as he was brought to Chania courts. Relatives of the unfortunate 45-year-old woman, visibly distressed, burst into cries and loud shouts against him, demanding justice for her death.

The man was initially arrested on cannabis cultivation charges after authorities' investigations revealed 13 cannabis plants in his possession. During interrogation, however, he admitted to having killed the woman. He is expected to be served with an arrest warrant for manslaughter today and a date for his defence hearing is to be set.

According to the findings of the forensic medical examination, the victim suffered a brutal death. The injuries that caused her fatal harm were fractures and traumatic brain injuries from blows with a fireplace poker. As reported by ERT, the woman initially suffered an attack to the head with a bottle, was then gagged to prevent her from being heard, whilst two stab wounds she received were not the ones that took her life.

Meanwhile, the deceased woman's brother came to court to file a complaint against the 43-year-old's partner. This move comes after the woman's statements yesterday, in which she spoke in a demeaning manner about the deceased. The complaint is filed on charges of insulting the dead. He stated in relation to this: "I consider her an even worse monster than him."

The 45-year-old's funeral is scheduled for tomorrow morning in Varyetro.
