Murder of Maria Kiosé in Evosmos: 47-year-old with serious criminal history identified as suspect
Seven months after the murder of the 59-year-old woman in Evosmos, Thessaloniki, police have identified a 47-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator — who was already in custody for a separate case.

Seven months later: alleged perpetrator identified in Maria Kiosé murder
According to megatv.com, Greek police have identified a 47-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of the murder of 59-year-old Maria Kiosé, who was found dead inside her home in Evosmos, Thessaloniki. The case remained unsolved for seven months.
The 47-year-old was not arrested for this specific case — he was already in prison. He was arrested just two days after the murder, for a completely different offence, and has since been serving a prison sentence.
Critical findings led to identification
Robbery is considered a possible motive. A decisive factor for investigators was the discovery of personal items belonging to the 59-year-old at the 47-year-old's premises. These findings were examined as part of the investigation and led to his identification as the alleged perpetrator.
Suspect's serious criminal history
According to the report, the 47-year-old has a particularly serious criminal history spanning more than a decade. He has come to the attention of authorities for domestic violence, non-compliance and repeated assault.
Notably, in the period from 7 March 2026 — that is, 23 days before the murder — until 1 April 2026 when he was arrested for the other offence, he had already had two encounters with police: on 7 March for drug offences and domestic violence, and on 16 March again for domestic violence. Both times he was released.
The lawyer who represented both parties
Lawyer Othónas Papadópoulos, speaking on the television programme "Light in the Tunnel," revealed that he has been the lawyer for both the victim, Maria Kiosé, since 2002, and the 47-year-old in a previous case of his.
"That is what makes my position particularly delicate," said Papadópoulos. "Since 2002 I have been the lawyer for the victim for over two decades, and at the same time I have defended in his own case the man who is currently facing this charge. I don't even know whether I will take on this case, because there are serious and delicate issues of a professional nature, of legal ethics."
He clarified that the last case he handled for the 47-year-old concerned "a completely unrelated offence" and that he has had no contact with him for approximately one month.
The family's reaction
A relative of the victim expressed relief at the development. "I am relieved. I will be very happy to see him punished," she said, adding that she learned the news from her brother. She noted that according to what she was told, items belonging to Maria Kiosé were found in the home of a woman connected to the suspect.
"It was an unjust loss. It was an inhuman thing. He wanted to take money, he wanted to take anything — he could have taken it and left her alone," she added. She also expressed satisfaction with the work of the Greek authorities and the journalist who investigated the case, saying that she hopes "all the truth comes to light."
The case is expected to proceed to trial, where the 47-year-old's guilt or innocence will be determined. He has not been convicted and the charge remains at the evaluation stage by the competent authorities.
