According to his statement, on the afternoon of 30 May the woman was found at his house. A fierce row broke out there with fatal consequences. The perpetrator claims he had not planned the act, but it arose from the tension that developed.
That same evening, the man wrapped the lifeless body in four black plastic bags and left it on the floor. The next morning, 1 June, he transported the body in his car to an agricultural area in Vatolakkos. There he dug a grave, placed the deceased inside it, and covered the spot with soil and branches.
His arrest took place on 19 June, with a warrant concerning violations of drugs legislation. At a farm belonging to him, precisely where he had buried Stavroula, police officers found thirteen cannabis plants.
Immediately afterwards, an investigation began at the Chania Security offices. The 43-year-old was called upon to answer questions arising from previous enquiries, but failed to provide convincing answers. The findings of the Forensic Laboratories confirmed that bloodstains found on the floor, on the television, on a sponge mop and in the perpetrator's small van belonged to the victim.
Ultimately, the 43-year-old confessed to the murder, claiming it arose from the heat of the quarrel and not from premeditation.
