New details regarding the homicide case of 45-year-old Stavrula Leventaki were provided by the Greek Police spokesperson, Konstantia Demoglidi, as reported by Athens Voice.
The victim's disappearance was reported with a delay, which significantly hampered the efforts of the prosecuting authorities. Nevertheless, police officers managed to locate video footage from security cameras. The 43-year-old man who confessed to the murder had attempted to delete the specific files. The investigators, however, recovered the data and established that the unfortunate woman had been directed to the area where the perpetrator's house was located, with her departure from there never being recorded.
According to Ms Demoglidi's statement, within a 24-hour period the first indications from material that the alleged murderer had attempted to eliminate had already been secured. He himself made a particular effort to cover his tracks.
Both the motive for the act and the possible involvement of third parties remain still unclear. The police spokesperson clarified that these matters would be investigated thoroughly during the course of the interrogation. It is being examined whether there was any form of complicity, knowledge or harbouring by other persons.
Among the individuals who have been examined is the suspect's wife. The 43-year-old lived permanently in the area for a number of years and had fully integrated into the local community, with the result that residents find it difficult to believe that he could have committed such a violent crime. His past with the authorities was almost clean, as the Police had only dealt with him once for an offence under common criminal law, a fact which made him non-suspicious in the eyes of those around him.
