Police in Chania, Crete, have solved the murder of 45-year-old Stavrula Leventakis, who had been missing for ten days. The perpetrator, a 43-year-old man who was renting a flat in the unfortunate woman's house, was arrested and confessed to the crime.
At a press conference held today by police officials, they presented the evidence that led to the arrest. The investigation began with a ten-day delay, as the woman's disappearance was reported several days after her actual disappearance. The authorities described the case as complex and demanding.
Police officers had focused early on the tenant, who was the last person to see the woman alive. The claims he made during his statements contained contradictions, which officers verified. Video footage from security cameras at neighbouring shops was also used, which recorded the final moments of the unfortunate woman.
According to the evidence presented, the 45-year-old entered her home at 18:20. The perpetrator transported the body to an agricultural plot in his vehicle, whilst attempting to clean the premises. However, he left behind some bloodstains that became evidence material.
The accused was brought before the prosecutor with charges of wilful manslaughter. An autopsy is expected today to determine the exact cause of death.
