Murder on Syros: What the lifting of telephone confidentiality revealed about 41-year-old Evangelía
The lifting of telephone confidentiality brings new figures into the spotlight in the murder case on Syros. The former wife of the accused spoke publicly for the first time.

Syros: New evidence from telephone communications and testimony in the murder of the 41-year-old
The final telephone communications of murdered Evangelía, her movements on the day she arrived on Syros, and her contacts before the crime constitute the most crucial evidence being examined by authorities, according to reporting by In.gr.
The lifting of telephone confidentiality revealed that the victim had been communicating with family members of the alleged perpetrator, as journalist Vasilis Lampropoulos disclosed.
The former wife of the accused denies the claims
Nearly three months after the crime on 23 July, the former wife of the 40-year-old accused spoke for the first time on the programme "Live News". She categorically denies allegations from close relatives of Evangelía, who claim that the accused had assaulted a member of the 41-year-old's circle.
"I think what has been said is very bad and am I to say it is a lie? It is a lie. They should never have seen him whenever I am present and they should neither fear him, nor should he have touched them," she stated.
The woman had two children with the accused and two others with the cousin of the murdered Evangelía. The children of both families knew each other and played together. "Her children play because my husband is her first cousin and I have custody of the two older children and that is how they are at my house," she noted.
According to her, neither during her marriage nor after the divorce was there ever any mention of the woman her ex-husband is accused of killing. "That has never happened and we have never mentioned my ex-husband, neither whether he knew her nor for him to tell me something about it," she said characteristically.
The victim's family version
The parents and close relatives of Evangelía insist that the 41-year-old went to the accused's house that afternoon because she had been informed that he had assaulted a member of her close circle. According to the family, Evangelía did not intend to commit robbery, but to warn the man.
"She wanted to instil fear in him and to give him the warning not to go ahead," a close relative stated.
The defence invokes lawful self-defence
The side of the accused maintains the position that the 40-year-old acted in a state of lawful self-defence that afternoon, adding that he did not know he was dealing with a woman.
From that day onwards in Áno Syros, shock and fear replaced the calm of the neighbourhood. Both sides are seeking full clarification of the case and revelation of the truth about the crime.
