Three individuals arrested in connection with the deadly attack on the Nestor family were brought to Thessaloniki's courthouse to provide statements to judicial authorities.
According to information that has emerged, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, when leaving the apartment where they had taken shelter to go to the target house, used an umbrella. The reason was that they feared the possible presence of surveillance systems on the route that could record their physical features.
This method had been used in the past by the leader of the specific group, which in 2022 had been accused of 28 arson incidents. The 26-year-old woman had been arrested at that time and sentenced to a suspended 16-month custodial sentence. The umbrella proved to be a key piece of evidence for prosecutors, as it led them to the case from two years earlier, narrowing down the list of potential suspects.
The perpetrators believed that the route between the shelter and the attack site had no cameras. However, directly opposite the apartment entrance there was a medical clinic with dark glass, inside which a surveillance system had been installed. From there, security authorities obtained video showing the two leaving and returning to the shelter after the incident. In addition, when checking for the presence of a camera, the alleged perpetrators came so close to the glass that the lens clearly captured their faces.
After completing the attack, they returned to the apartment where they remained until the afternoon hours of the following day. When they left, they had changed the clothes they had worn during the execution of the plan. The clothes they had used had been placed in a white backpack. Part of these garments was found during searches conducted at the places where they were living after their arrest.
