Arrest of two con artists in Larissa following chase with ramming of police motorcycle
Two men, aged 27 and 31, were arrested on Saturday (04.10.2026) in Larissa following a dangerous chase in which they attempted to ram police officers from the DI.AS unit and drove against the direction of traffic. The incident was reported by Newsit.gr.
According to an announcement by ELAS, on Saturday afternoon an unknown person called an elderly woman in Larissa, posing as an employee of DEDDIE. He told her there was high voltage in the electrical current of her home and persuaded her to place a bag containing money and jewellery outside the entrance of her house, ostensibly for their "protection".
The attempt was noticed by a neighbour, who alerted the authorities. When the 27-year-old arrived at the location to collect the bag, he noticed the presence of a third person and fled. Police officers from DI.AS located him as he was leaving the area.
The 27-year-old got on a motorcycle where his 31-year-old accomplice was waiting for him. The two men drove at high speed, entered a one-way street in the opposite direction and attempted to ram the service motorcycle of the police officers who were chasing them.
Following a dangerous manoeuvre, their motorcycle hit a wall and came to a stop. During their arrest, the two suspects resisted and struck the police officers with their hands and feet.
Earlier the same day, an unknown accomplice of theirs had called another woman, posing as a police officer. On the pretext of an impending arrest of con artists, he persuaded her to place a bag containing 760 euros and various pieces of jewellery under a rubbish bin, which the perpetrators removed.
From the possession of the two arrested persons, 575 euros, two mobile phones and the motorcycle they had used were seized.
ELAS announced that charges were filed against the two arrested persons as well as unknown accomplices for forming a criminal organisation, completed and attempted fraud, disobedience, violence against public officials and judicial officers, dangerous driving and attempted dangerous bodily harm.
The two men were brought before the Misdemeanour Prosecutor of Larissa. The preliminary investigation is continuing by the Larissa Directorate for the Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes.
