Two pickpockets arrested at Omonia Metro station
Police officers from the "ARIADNE" operation arrested a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who stole a woman's wallet on a Metro train. A third accomplice is being sought.

On the afternoon of Thursday, 2 October 2026, a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, together with another accomplice who remains unknown, approached a female passenger on a Metro train at Omonia station and removed a wallet containing cash from her bag without her noticing.
According to Newsit.gr, police officers from the "ARIADNE" operation were informed immediately of the incident and began a search for the perpetrators. A few minutes later they located the 26-year-old at Victoria station and arrested him; the 22-year-old was arrested shortly afterwards.
Criminal charges were filed against the two arrested individuals. They are accused, as the case may be, of theft as accomplices, giving false testimony, disobedience, and violation of legislation concerning foreign nationals. They were brought before the Prosecutor.
"ARIADNE" operation: 3,394 arrests in nine months
The operation is part of the broader "ARIADNE" operation, under which police officers patrol and conduct regular checks on buses, Metro, suburban rail and tram. During the first nine months of 2026, a total of 164,102 checks were carried out, 1,539 persons were brought in, and 3,394 arrests were made.
Of these, 83 concerned theft and robbery, 1,012 violations of legislation concerning narcotic drugs, 1,278 violations of legislation concerning foreign nationals, 109 violations concerning weapons, 29 cases of property damage and graffiti, and 883 other cases.
