Two swimmers lost their lives on beaches in Nea Stira and Rhodes. On Gavdos, 43 foreign nationals were located and a 14-year-old smuggler from South Sudan was arrested.

According to hcg.gr, multiple incidents occurred today on Greek islands and coastal areas, involving the Port Authority-Hellenic Coast Guard (LS-ELAKT).
Deaths of swimmers
In the early morning hours, the Port Authority of Nea Stira was informed of the recovery of a 79-year-old Greek man, unconscious, from the sea off "Plaz" beach. He was transported by EKAB ambulance to General Hospital of Karystos "Diocletian", where his death was confirmed. The 1st Port Authority Division of Nea Stira ordered an autopsy at the Forensic Medicine Service in Athens.
In the afternoon hours, the Port Authority of Rhodes recovered a 69-year-old Dutch national, also unconscious, from "Ialyssos" beach. The man was transported to the General Hospital of Rhodes, where his death was confirmed. The Central Port Authority of Rhodes ordered an autopsy and toxicological tests.
43 foreign nationals on Gavdos – arrest of 14-year-old smuggler
In the early morning hours, the Port Authority of Gavdos located and rescued 43 foreign nationals — 42 men and 1 woman — in the "Kamareles" area, with the assistance of a LS-ELAKT patrol vessel and two private vessels. The foreign nationals were initially taken to a temporary accommodation facility run by the Gavdos Municipality and subsequently transferred to the port of Hora Sfakion, from where they were transported to an accommodation facility in Agia Chania.
From the crew of the boat, a 14-year-old foreign national, a South Sudan national, was identified as the smuggler. The Central Port Authority of Chania arrested him for illegal entry into the country, facilitation of illegal migration and exposure, as, according to statements from fellow passengers, the 14-year-old transported them from Tobruk in Libya in exchange for a fee.
Ship immobilised and captain arrested in Lefkada
In the early morning hours, the Port State Control authority of Lefkada prohibited the departure of a passenger/ferry vessel following an extraordinary inspection. Officers of the Port Authority of Lefkada arrested the 56-year-old Greek captain for obstruction of traffic. The vessel will remain immobilised until a certificate of seaworthiness is produced by the competent surveyor.
Arrest of sailor for forged certificates in Syros
In the afternoon hours yesterday, the Port Authority of Syros arrested a 46-year-old Greek sailor for forgery. The man possessed and presented forged maritime competency certificates with the intention of being hired as master of a tugboat. The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Port Authority of Syros.
Patient transfers
The Operations Centre of LS-ELAKT carried out five patient transfers requiring immediate hospital care: a 38-year-old from Oreos in Euboea to Glypha in Phthiotis, a 50-year-old from Mykonos to Syros, a 33-year-old from Donoussa to Syros, a 42-year-old from Pisaeto in Ithaca to Sami in Cephalonia, and an 83-year-old from Skiathos to Agia Kyriaki in Magnesia.
