On Sunday, in camera, the three men accused of the murder of the head of the Apesokari community gave statements to the investigating authorities. The victim was the 49-year-old Alexandros Daskalakis.
The procedure took place at the city's police headquarters, where the suspects were being held. Judicial officials travelled there for security reasons, avoiding transfer to the court building. This move was aimed at limiting tensions, following incidents that had previously occurred between relatives of the parties involved.
The youngest of the three, a 32-year-old livestock farmer, as well as a 59-year-old shepherd, a relative of his, were remanded in custody by order of the investigating magistrate. Both are facing serious charges of joint homicide.
The third man, the 57-year-old father of the livestock farmer, was not remanded in custody. Instead, he was placed under house arrest. The judicial council will decide within the coming days whether the measure will be maintained or tightened. The elderly man is accused of moral complicity.
None of the three accepted the actions they are accused of. Their lawyers argued that the case file lacks evidence connecting their clients to the crime.
