Two men were arrested in areas of Chalkidiki and Thessaloniki as part of an investigation into a telephone fraud case. The perpetrators attempted to extract the sum of €85,000 from an elderly person.

Police investigation led to the arrest of the suspects, who are alleged to have been involved in a network of defrauding elderly people by telephone. The victim received calls from the fraudsters, who with various pretexts attempted to convince him to hand over a sum of money.

Authorities are now investigating the possibility that those arrested were involved in a broader telephone fraud ring operating in northern Greece. The case has been referred to the judiciary.
